On Tuesday morning the 20th November, Nenagh Library experienced the offerings of science week. Michael Moylan visited with his Science Live show and entertained pupils from St. Mary’s Junior Boys’ School, the Gaelscoil, St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Primary and St. Mary’s Convent Primary.
There were some unusual visitors to the library on Thursday November 8th, which saw the first of the Science Week events take place. Rosie Campbell delighted her audience, comprising of classes from St. Mary’s Convent Primary School and St. Mary’s Church of Ireland Primary School, with her “Animal Magic” show. Rosie is no stranger to Nenagh Library, and all her previous visits have proved to be very popular. Her show is both entertaining and informative – giving children the opportunity to see the animals up close with some of the braver pupils even volunteering to hold the animals, which included a falcon and a snake!
This month the exhibition room hosts the work of Una Ryan (Spillane). Una is from Cunnahurt, Nenagh and now lives with her husband and family in Co. Meath. After studying various disciplines including pottery, bog oak sculpture and life drawing her focus is now on nature – in particular seascapes and landscapes.

As part of the Spleodair Community Arts Festival in Nenagh, the Library hosted a lunchtime concert where a crowd of over 90 spectators enjoyed a wonderful performance by Ned Kelly accompanied by local musicians
At the most recent meeting of Nenagh Book Club, the group discussed We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. This, Shriver’s seventh novel, was published in 2003 and quickly became a best-seller. It won the 2005 Orange Prize for fiction. We Need To Talk About Kevin tackles some controversial issues, such as teenage mental health. It centres on a mother’s attempts to cope after her teenage son commits mass murder at his high school.
