Thurles Library has been added to a new European database of inspirational libraries – click here to access the database. NAPLE (National Authorities on Public Libraries in Europe), the European network of library agencies – or equivalent national authorities – established this database of the finest European library buildings opened since 1990. Initially, each member country was requested to submit five of the most inspirational libraries in the country and to supply photos and information.

The countdown is almost over – only a week to go until Frank Delaney’s visits to Tipperary Libraries. We had the whole of County Tipperary reading ‘Tipperary – A novel’ for it’s first Tipperary Reads initiative. Tipperary born, best selling author Frank Delaney is the chosen author for 2008 and his latest book ‘Tipperary – a novel’ is the chosen novel. Frank is travelling especially from New York to meet his readers and to chair a series of discussion groups in libraries throughout Tipperary.

On the 90th anniversary of the ending of the Great War and as part of the Thomas Davis lecture series, RTÉ Radio are holding three public debates in front of an invited audience examining the Morality, Memory and Legacy of the Great War for Ireland. Thurles Library is honoured to host the final debate, on Tuesday 25th November at 7 p.m., on Morality and the Great War. The debate will be chaired by Myles Dungan, RTÉ Radio 1 presenter and historian, and will feature a panel of historians and expert commentators, including Prof. John Horne of Trinity College.

From the 4th – 29th November, Thurles library presents a photographic exhibition by Lady Clementina Maude. Come along to the Source for an opportunity to see this unique collection (open from 10a.m-5p.m and later on performance evenings). Admission is free and all welcome.
