The Rural Broadband Scheme has been launched by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. This Scheme, which is an EU funded measure under the Rural Development Programme in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, is designed to make a basic broadband service available to premises in rural locations which are not served by existing internet service providers.
If you are looking for a broadband service, you should first check the names of the internet service providers operating in your county on the Callcosts website – www.callcosts.ie and approach these to obtain a service.
You can also check if you are living in an area covered by the National Broadband Scheme (NBS) on the NBS website, www.three.ie/nbs. If you live in an NBS area, then you are guaranteed to be offered a service
Say No To Ageism Week 2011 takes place from May 30th to June 3rd. The week provides an opportunity to remind us of the consequences of ageism in service provision and encourages us to renew our commitment to combating ageism in society. This year’s campaign under the theme ‘I Say No To Ageism’ will also include a focus on older people’s access to insurance. The campaign will be launched prior to a seminar on 30 May in the Bedford Hall, Dublin Castle. The purpose of the seminar, ‘Older people and Insurance in Ireland and the EU’, will be to initiate dialogue and highlight new thinking on health insurance and travel insurance on a European wide basis. Further details regarding the event and the Say No To Ageism 2011 campaign are available on our website www.equality.ie.
