The County Tipperary Joint Libraries Committee is the authority responsible for providing and promoting an active public library service for the people of County Tipperary.

The Committee came into being on the first day of January, 1927 taking over from the Co. Tipperary Carnegie Libraries Committee which had operated a rural library service in Tipperary for a number of years previously. The newly formed County Councils of North and South Tipperary had decided to form what was then, and indeed still is, a unique body to administer the library service on their behalf. The current Committee is made up of 21 members appointed by both County Councils.

From modest beginnings, the Joint Libraries Committee has gradually developed and expanded the library service in Tipperary and now operates a network of thirteen branches throughout the county. In addition, the Committee operates a schools library system which now extends to over 150 schools.

This website is part of our computerisaton strategy to implement a programme which will allow us to fully participate in the delivery of the Information Society; we hope it will also help in our mission to provide equal opportunity access to a high quality library and information service to all people in Co. Tipperary.

Cinntiú go gcuirtear ar fáil comhdheiseanna rochtana taobh istigh de Sheirbhís ardchaighdeáin Leabharlainne agus Eolais atá sofhreagrach do riachtanais athraitheacha ár bpobal agus atá tacaíoch don chóras oideachas fad saoil.  

Is é Comhchoiste Leabharlann Chontae Thiobraid Árainn an t-údaras atá freagrach as seirbhís leabharlainne poiblí atá gníomhach a chur ar fáil agus a chur chun cinn do phobal Thiobraid Árainn.  

Bunaíodh an Coiste ar an gcéad lá de mhí Eanáir sa bhliain 1927. Ghlacadar ról Choiste Leabharlann Poiblí Carnegie Thiobraid Árainn, a reáchtáil seirbhís leabharlainne tuaithe ar feadh roinnt blianta roimhe sin. Bheartaigh na Comhairlí Contae nua i dTuaisceart agus i nDeisceart Thiobraid Árainn comhlacht a bhunú a mbeadh foirm a bhí, agus atá fós, uathúil aige chun riaradh a dhéanamh ar an seirbhís leabharlainne ar a son. Tá 21 ball den Choiste faoi láthair, atá ceaptha ag an dá Chomhairle Contae.  

D'fhorbair an Coiste óna thosach módhúil agus leathnaigh an seirbhís leabharlainne. Cuireann an Coiste gréasán de thrí bhrainse déag ar faíl ar fud an chontae sa lá atá inniu ann. Maille leis an ngréasán bhrainsí, reáchtálann an Coiste córas leabharlainne do scoileanna a chlúdaíonn anois os cionn 150 scoil.

Faoin straitéis seo cuirfimid clár i bhfeidhm a chuideoidh linn páirt iomlán a ghlacadh in seachadadh an tSochaí Faisnéise; tá súil againn chomh maith go gcabhróidh sé lenár misean, is é sin comhdheiseanna rochtana a chur ar fáil do phobal Thiobraid Árainn taobh istigh de sheirbhís ardchaighdeáin leabharlainne agus eolais.  

Anseo gheobhaidh tú gach phíosa eolais atá ag teastáil uait faoi do sheirbhís leabharlainne áitiúil maille le rochtain ar ár seiribhísí idirghníomhacha. Tá súil againn go dtiocfaidh tú ar ais gan mhoill!
