On the 5th April last saw Borrisokane Library transform into the ideal location to provide warmth and welcome to the Finnish Ambassador, Janna Teckenburg. The Ambassador was cordially greeted outside the Library by the Lord Mayor Of Borrisokane Darragh McKenna, County Librarian Damien Dullaghan, and local Librarian Noirin Duggan . We went inside for the Ambassador to greet some patrons of the Library and some locals. We welcomed the 6th Class students from Scoil Mhuire along with their teacher Mrs Kennedy who entertained us through both song and Irish Dance. We then had local Historian Eamon Slevin inform and enlighten us about the history of Borrisokane. Eamon then presented the Ambassador with his picture album of Borrisokane. We then had some questions from the children for the Ambassador and as we found out, Finnish culture, is very similar to Ireland….Tipperary in fact.
We then had lovely confectionaries served by the local Country Kitchen and beautifully designed cupcakes by local CakeUp Artist Annette Donnelly with both the Irish Flag and the Finnish Flag!
So after refreshments it was time for the Finnish ambassador to set out for Dublin, we at Tipperary Libraries thoroughly enjoyed her visit to Borrisokane and look forward to our paths crossing again in the future.
