A Family Affair – Art Exhibition at Carrick on Suir Library for the month of April
A joint exhibition from three members of the same family, the various pieces represent many years of a family tradition of making art and is a celebration of some of the most important things in our lives – family and art. The paintings are intensely personal – they include people we know, pictures we have loved, and places and objects and ideas that have captivated us over the years. A colourful story of who we are.
Nancy-Jane’s love of her fellow humans and an enjoyment of people’s characters shines through in her work. Her main focus is in colour in the world and the things that catch her attention. Her paintings are quite varied – often personal, including self portraits and places she has been, but also sometimes abstract or focusing less on detail and more on atmosphere.
Lucy Carragher is an incredibly eclectic artist. Her work includes everything from precise draughtsmanship to finger and silk painting. She designed and cut the moulds for the prints you see in some of her paintings.. The results are always beautiful, intriguing and breath-taking. There is a constant presence of a figure in her work – there is always a human interest in the subject of her painting – a person to examine and wonder about – often set against city and landscapes.
Jane Bulfin was at one stage, an archaeologist, and you can see the influence of that in her pieces themed on skulls, bog bodies, old trees, etc. Besides sketches of family members the natural world is her main focus. Drawing and mixed media and a love of sewing and quilting influence her art.
