Frank Delaney fascinated his audience when he spoke at Carrick library on Friday 21 Nov about the strong draw he feels towards his County Tipperary origins. Frank, who now lives in Connecticut, began a career in broadcasting with RTÉ before moving on to the BBC in Northern Ireland and then to BBC Radio 4 where he presented Bookworm for many years.
Frank was full of interesting anecdotes of the times he writes about in his novel Tipperary – namely the eventful sixty years from 1860 to the 1920s. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the connections between people and places in the county. He also gave us an insight into the rich feeling for land in Ireland and compared it to the Texan attitude to oil. Those who came enjoyed a friendly informal meeting – they only wished they could chat for longer!
