We were delighted to welcome Minister Alan Kelly and Senator Denis Landy to Carrick-on-Suir Library today (Monday 9th Nov) as we kicked off the Science Week celebrations. Third and fourth class girls from Presentation Primary School visited to learn loads of interesting science facts and conduct some homemade experiments. Minister Alan Kelly and Senator Denis Landy joined in the fun and helped ‘Professor’ Pat to demonstrate the ‘gravity’ experiment.
Both Minister Kelly and Senator Landy are avid readers and very supportive of the Library services. Minister Kelly visits his local library in Nenagh on a regular basis with his two young children. He tells us that he is currently reading Donal Ryan’s new book ‘A Slanting of the Sun’ and in fact went to school with the author. He is also reading Alastair Campbell’s book ‘Winners’ and has just completed Eamon Gilmore’s book ‘Inside the Room’. Alastair Campbell was Tony Blair’s chief spokesman and strategist during the Labour Government years.
Senator Denis Landy is reading Irish Times nature columnist Michael Viney’s book ‘Reflections on Another Life’ a chronicle of his life in Thallabawn, Co. Mayo. And keeping it local Senator Landy has just finished a book by local authors Catherine Conlon and Mary Phelan, ‘Dear Cathy…Love, Mary’ is an account of their friendship as revealed through their letters written in the 1980’s.
Great to see our local representatives supporting both local authors and their local library services.
