“Birth of the Irish Republic” from the wonderful painting by Walter Paget depicting the GPO during the British onslaught. The painting now hangs in The GPO, a reminder of the bravery and courage of those men and women who took up their positions on Easter Monday 24 April 1916 in an effort for Ireland’s Independence.
Clonmel Craft Circle present their interpretation of Walter Paget’s painting ‘ Birth of the Irish Republic’. The tableau is made up of pieces knitted by members of the group and depicts a scene from the GPO based on the painting by Paget.
