On Saturday 19th September a large crowd of approx 300 people turned out for the Reading Tree Presentation of Medals and Certificates in Nenagh Library. Over 180 children took part in this year’s Reading Tree, making it our best ever. Hopefully, we’ll beat that record next year! We gave out 140 medals and certs on the day and in the intervening days handed out another 44 to those who couldn’t make it to the Presentation. The children were delighted with their medals, kindly sponsored this year by O’Mahony’s book shops, and loved the drama of being able to come up (to loud cheers) and be presented with them. The arrival of minerals and Taytos afterwards topped off the day for them.
Parents and relatives were thrilled with the medals & certificates and thanked library staff for putting on the Reading Tree this Summer. They felt that it gave their children an incentive to keep up with their reading for the holidays and even those children who wouldn’t normally continue to read through the holidays took up the challenge of reading 6 books and putting leaves on the tree in the hopes of getting a medal. Our Reading Tree looks wonderful, just in time for the Children’s Book Festival in October. We want to thank O’Mahony’s for their sponsorship of this year’s Reading Tree and once again we would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Summer Reading Programme 2009 and roll on 2010!
