50 children from Cloughjordan No.1 N.S. and Toomevara N.S. arrived bright and early on Wednesday morning, 30th September to have a look at our library and meet our guest author, Oisín McGann, at the launch or CBF 09 in Nenagh. Originally from Dublin, bestselling writer Oisín is both an author and illustrator of children’s books including his very popular ‘Mad Grandad’ and ‘Forbidden Files’ series for younger kids, ages 6 – 10 yrs as well as novels for older children. The children really enjoyed their visit and watched amazed as Oisín produced sketch after sketch and switched between character’s accents faultlessly.
The children weren’t shy and had plenty of questions to ask him ranging from questions on his ideas to how long it takes him to write his different books. Perhaps my favourite question was from the girl who wanted to know if his feelings about his books change over time. The teachers were very pleased with the visit and interested in how he creates his books but were happy to allow the children ask all the questions that they wanted to ask him. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the co-operation of the north Tipperary Arts office and our Arts Officer, Melanie Scott.
