GUANTANAMO BOY by ANNA PERERA

While 15-year-old Lancastrian, Khalid, is visiting relatives in Karachi, he is arrested, tortured and interrogated before being sent to Guantanamo. Perera doesn’t skimp on the details of his imprisonment and the physical and emotional torture that he suffers, but there is an understanding in her writing that nothing is simply black and white. US soldiers are not all tarred with the same brush and not everyone in Guantanamo is deemed to be innocent, or guilty. An irrefutable, impeccably paced and rewarding book.
