Thurles Library; Dunstan By Conn Iggulden

Dunstan
Conn Iggulden
Anglo Saxon England 937AD is a disjointed mess of petty kingdoms under constant threat from the Danes. Dunstan is a fascinating character who is placed in Glastonbury with his brother as a boy to give him an education as a younger son. He carves out an influential role in the constantly changing political scene. His intelligence, political nous and ambition place him in the centre of events as he sees the reign of seven Saxon  kings and England become a unified entity.
Iggulden paints Dunstan as a complex man, cleric, visionary, master craftsman, adept politician and capable of ruthless action as well as compassion. A wonderful story and thankfully with historical notes to continue researching the period should you want to – I definitely do.
Highly recommended
