This book proves that you CAN often judge a book by it’s cover. It is a chilling, action packed, Gothic adventure set in 1884 England. If you don’t like ghost stories, do not be put off for a second because this book is absolutely bursting with humour and colourful characters. The cover displays a young boy, Sam Toop, being touched by a ghost. Sam works and lives in an undertakers and he has the ability to see and speak to ghosts, much to his annoyance. The storyline drifts beautifully between a paranormal after-world and the living. The book club members describe it as an action packed historical ghost story, full of humour. They all loved it and would recommend it to their friends. We had great fun discussing the many and sometimes complex themes such as relationships between parents and children, death, murder etc. Highly recommended.
