In May 2015 Roscrea Through the Ages put on an exhibition in Damer House honouring all the men from Roscrea who fought and died in World War One. This was so popular that it was decided to put this exhibition on in Roscrea Library. It consists of stories, photographs and documents of those who fought and died. personal stories and journals from people like Fr Michael Bergin, poems from Frank Canning of Dromakeenan and Jeramiah Ryan from Limerick Street.
It is not known the exact figure of how many enlisted from Roscrea but it is thought that there were around 500 . Of this, at least 109 were killed. This exhibition has on display a book with details of the men who died including some of their wills, enlistment papers etc. There are also letters sent to mothers and spouses on the death of their loved one.
The library service is very grateful to all those involved with Roscrea Through The Ages for donating an electronic copy of the exhibition for our local studies collection
