Growing Imaginations project started in Cashel library yesterday and will run every week for the next six months. We were successful in securing funding for this project from the Dormant Account Funds. Growing Imaginations is a participatory literacy and art project for adults with disabilities. The aim of the project is to build understanding and awareness of living with physical, sensory, intellectual or hidden disabilities. Artist Elena Sawcenko is facilitating the workshops. Elena is herself deaf and will work with a group of adults with intellectual disabilities to write and create sensory tactile books, which will be available for loan through the library. A series of interactive and reflective workshops will help the groups to develop the skills of story-making through art. The end product will be a positive message and campaign that can only contribute to increased awareness of the challenges faced by our friends and family with disabilities.
