This creates a beautiful intergenerational and intercultural exchange\, where volunteers share their life experience and local knowledge while students share their own cultures. \n\n\nThe Focus: The goal isn’t necessarily perfect grammar; it’s confidence. Conversations focus on “real-life” scenarios\, such as: \n\n\nVisiting a GP or pharmacy. \n\n\nTalking to teachers at the school gate. \n\n\nJob interviews and CV preparation. \n\n\nUnderstanding local slang and traditions. \n\n\n\n\nThe Setting: Small groups or “cafe-style” setups where everyone feels safe to make mistakes and practice at their own pace. \n\n\n🌍 Why It Matters\nFor many newcomers—including refugees\, international protection applicants\, and migrant workers—language is the biggest barrier to “surviving and thriving.” Fáilte Isteach helps break down that barrier by: \n\n\nReducing Isolation: Providing a weekly social outlet for people who might otherwise feel lonely. \n\n\nBuilding Community: Helping locals and newcomers get to know each other as neighbors\, not just strangers. \n\n\nEmpowerment: Giving people the practical tools to navigate Irish systems (health\, education\, transport) independently. \n\n\n📍 How to Get Involved\nWith over 170 groups across all 26 counties in Ireland\, there is likely a group near you. \n\n\nAs a Learner: Classes are free and open to all levels. SUMMARY:Exhibition Launch in Cashel Library
DESCRIPTION:Cashel Library will host an exhibition of segmented woodturning by\nMartin Ryan from 4 August to 31 August. The official opening takes\nplace on Saturday 8 August at 11am. \nMartin has received awards from the Irish Woodturners Guild (IWG) and\nDesign & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI)\, and his work has previously\nbeen exhibited in Thurles\, Templemore and at Somerset House\, London.\nIn 2022 his work was featured on RTÉ’s Nationwide. \nWorks on display will include a vase incorporating the Rock of Cashel\nin its design and a vase incorporating Holycross Abbey\, along with\npieces drawing on Greek\, Native American and Arabic cultures. \nHis commissions include work for the Irish-Portuguese Golf Society and\nother golf clubs\, as well as prizes for jockeys and trainers. Pieces\nhave been purchased by private collectors in Ireland and by buyers in\nFrance and the USA. \nAt the official opening\, Martin will unveil one of his most\nsignificant works to date. It stands 59 inches tall and 18 inches wide\nand is made up of over 1\,000 pieces of wood. \n\nThe exhibition will be launched by Cllr Marie Murphy Cathaoirleach Tipp-Cahir-Cashel MD. \nAdmission is free and the exhibition is open during normal library hours.
