DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 16th August The Irish Heart Foundation Mobile Unit will visit Cashel library between 10.30am-3pm \nThis is in association with The Irish Heart Foundation and Healthy Ireland At Your Library. \n‘The Irish Heart Foundations Mobile Health Unit offers free blood pressure and pulse checks to groups and communities across Ireland. This service is entirely free of charge The Mobile Health Unit has two private consultation rooms with a nurse available in each room to provide heart health information and do free blood pressure and pulse checks. The one-to-one advice offered by the nurse is a vital part of this check. Each person receives a personal record card with their results and in the event of any abnormal results is advised to follow up with their GP. \n

DESCRIPTION:“Echoes of the Ancients: Ogham through clay and scroll”. \nExperienced community artist Cher Gleeson will give this engaging\, hands-on workshop exploring the Early Medieval alphabet Ogham\, which was used to write the early Irish language. This workshop invites participants to translate their own names into the ancient Ogham script\, connecting personally to Irish heritage through language and symbolism. \nEach participant will:\n• Learn the history and meaning of the Ogham alphabet\,\n• translate their name using a traditional Ogham reference\,\n• Create an “Ancient Name Scroll”—a parchment-style artwork aged with natural techniques\, featuring their name in Ogham\n• Shape a personal Ogham Stone from clay\, inspired by standing stones and tree lore \nParticipants will leave with two meaningful keepsakes and a deeper appreciation for Ireland’s rich linguistic and artistic legacy. \nThe morning workshop\, 11:00am – 12:30\, will be for children age 8+\, while the afternoon workshop\, 2:30 – 4:00pm\, will be for adults. \nThis workshop is free but places are limited. You will hear about what it is really like to write a song and learn how easy it is to create one of your own. If you have a song you are working on then please bring it with you (totally optional). SUMMARY:Tales of a Cashel Bigamist - Lecture in Cashel library
DESCRIPTION:An exciting lecture on a Cashel Bigamist from the early 1800’s will take place in Cashel Library on Thursday 28th August @ 2.30pm. This illustrated presentation will examine key themes arising from research into Irish convicts transported to New South Wales in the early 19th century. Australian-based Dr Damian John Gleeson\, has been visiting Tipperary since the early 1980s and is descendant of the Gleeson (erenagh)\, O’Brien and Collins families of Errinagh\, Silvermines.  As a qualified genealogist and historian\, Damian’s works include An Enduring Flame: St Patrick’s Mortlake\, 1885-2020: An Irish-Australian Working-Class Community (Mortlake\, NSW\, 2021)\, winner of the City of Canada Bay Heritage Award in 2021\, and The Rock of St George: celebrating the 125th anniversary of the first St Joseph’s Church/School\, Rockdale (Rockdale City\, NSW\, 2017)\, winner of the Ron Rathbone Local History Prize\, Bayside Council\, 2017. \nContact 062-63825 to book \nVenue Cashel Library \nTime 3pm \nFree Event \nEircode E25 K798
