SUMMARY:“Fáilte Isteach” Conversational Groups Nenagh Library
DESCRIPTION:Starting January 21st\, 2026\n“Fáilte Isteach” Conversational Groups will be held in Nenagh Library!\n\n\n\nFor booking & info\, contact:\n👤 Inna Varytska\nNew Arrivals Project Worker\, North Tipperary Development Company (SICAP)\n📞 Nenagh Office: 067 56676\n📱 Mobile: +353 (087) 253 2190\n     Email: IVarytska@ntdc.ie\n🌐 Website: http://www.ntdc.ie\n\n\n The group will meet every Wednesday\, except the second Wednesday of each month.\nWhat is Fáilte Isteach?\nIt’s a wonderful community project where predominantly older volunteers welcome migrants through conversational English classes—building language skills\, friendships\, and community connections.\n\nFáilte Isteach (which translates from Irish as “Welcome In”) is a brilliant community-based project that brings people together through the power of conversation. \nFounded in 2006 by Third Age\, a national voluntary organization\, the program was designed to help migrants integrate into Irish society by providing free\, informal conversational English classes. \n\n💡 How It Works\nUnlike a formal school setting\, Fáilte Isteach is all about “student-centered” learning in a relaxed environment (often over a cup of tea!). \n\n\nThe Tutors: Classes are primarily led by older volunteers. This creates a beautiful intergenerational and intercultural exchange\, where volunteers share their life experience and local knowledge while students share their own cultures. \n\n\nThe Focus: The goal isn’t necessarily perfect grammar; it’s confidence. Conversations focus on “real-life” scenarios\, such as: \n\n\nVisiting a GP or pharmacy. \n\n\nTalking to teachers at the school gate. \n\n\nJob interviews and CV preparation. \n\n\nUnderstanding local slang and traditions. \n\n\n\n\nThe Setting: Small groups or “cafe-style” setups where everyone feels safe to make mistakes and practice at their own pace. \n\n\n🌍 Why It Matters\nFor many newcomers—including refugees\, international protection applicants\, and migrant workers—language is the biggest barrier to “surviving and thriving.” Fáilte Isteach helps break down that barrier by: \n\n\nReducing Isolation: Providing a weekly social outlet for people who might otherwise feel lonely. \n\n\nBuilding Community: Helping locals and newcomers get to know each other as neighbors\, not just strangers. \n\n\nEmpowerment: Giving people the practical tools to navigate Irish systems (health\, education\, transport) independently. \n\n\n📍 How to Get Involved\nWith over 170 groups across all 26 counties in Ireland\, there is likely a group near you. \n\n\nAs a Learner: Classes are free and open to all levels. You don’t usually need to register far in advance—just find your local group and show up. \n\n\nAs a Volunteer: You don’t need a teaching qualification to help! If you are a fluent English speaker\, patient\, and enjoy a good chat\, you’re qualified. Training and conversation manuals are provided by the national team. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.thirdageireland.ie/failte-isteachhttps://www.facebook.com/thirdagefailteisteach\n#FáilteIsteach#NenaghLibrary#TipperaryLibraries#CommunitySupport#LearnEnglish#LanguageLearning#InclusiveCommunities#LibrariesIreland#nenagh#RightToRead
