SUMMARY:Drones in Everyday Life - Promise\, Potential\, and Protection.
DESCRIPTION:Drones are transforming how we live and work – from helping farmers monitor crops and improve harvests to enabling doorstep delivery of packages and medicines. As these intelligent flying systems take on bigger roles in daily life\, UAVSec project (funded by Research Ireland via CONNECT at Walton Institute SETU) investigates how to keep them secure\, ensuring they cannot be hacked or disrupted while in flight. The aim is to build trust in drone technology so it can serve communities with confidence and security.

SUMMARY:Regeneration of Scohaboy Bog\, Talk by Gearóid Ó Foighil in Nenagh library
DESCRIPTION:Free Event: Regeneration of Scohaboy Bog\, Talk by Gearóid Ó Foighil in Nenagh library as part of Science Week 2024. All Welcome. Please book your free ticket on Eventbrite using the attached link or QR code.\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ie/…/regeneration-of-scohaboy…\nThe raised bog restoration programme at Scohaboy SAC\, Cloughjordan is one of the most successful community supported for climate and nature projects in Ireland today. The award winning restoration programme has seen three major rewetting works phases involving the NPWS\, Coillte Forest and fifty private landowners to bring 90% of Scohaboy`s 1500 acres under conservation and rewetting measures. The Cloughjordan Community Development Association are the community partners in the restoration programme.\nFormed over thousands of years\, peat is a type of soil made from partially decayed organic matter. Around 20% of Ireland’s land area is covered by peatland – in the form of bogs and fens – it’s one of the country’s most precious natural resources and our oldest `near-nature` landscape. The high bog area at Scohaboy is an unbroken link to the last ice-age\, an ecological gem 10\,000 years in formation.\nPeatlands are highly effective natural systems for capturing and storing carbon\, and therefore play a vital role in tackling the climate crisis. They boast exceptional biodiversity\, they help regulate water flows\, and they’ve been an important part of Irish culture for millennia.\nhttps://www.coillte.ie/site/sopwell-and-scohaboy-bog/https://www.npws.ie/protected-sites/sac/002206https://www.facebook.com/scohaboybogcloughjordanhttps://twitter.com/scohaboy\n@TipperaryFestivalofScience@LibrariesIreland@TipperaryCountyCouncilLibraryService#ScienceTipp #tipperarysciencefest #ScienceWeek2024

DESCRIPTION:In this very special event\, which is part of our Science Week schedule here in Clonmel library\, Dr. Cas Kramer explores the impact that DNA analysis\, Fingerprinting Technology and Genetics have had on historical research and criminal justice. He will analyse how DNA fingerprinting can be used to prove innocence in criminal cases and strengthen arguments of guilt. Additionally\, Cas will explore intriguing genetic traits\, such as tongue rolling and hair on the first knuckle\, and gain insights into how these and other features are passed down through our DNA. \nJoin us here on Wednesday 13th of November at 6:00pm for a thoroughly intriguing talk! \nThis is a FREE event. No booking is required. \nFor more information call us on 052 6166130 or email clonmellibrary@tipperarycoco.ie
