DESCRIPTION:The Marie Keating Foundation will be in Carrick-on-Suir with the Mobile Information Unit in conjunction with the Sean Healy Memorial Library\, Fairgreen\, E32 X860 on Friday 12th April from 10.30am – 3pm.  \nPlease do let the wider community know they are very welcome to visit the Mobile Information Unit. \nThis is a free service and the Registered Nurse will be available to answer questions and provide written information on the main cancers\, the 3 cancer screening programmes in Ireland as well as provide cancer prevention information. \nPlease note\, there is no screening offered on the day and no fundraising activity will be going on. \nBetween 11am – 12pm there will be a talk in the library entitled Your Health Your Choice (The Pillars of Cancer Prevention).   \n  \n\nThis talk provides information on the 7 pillars of cancer prevention  –\n\nAttendees will learn about what action they can take and simple choices they can make to reduce their chance of developing cancer by between 30 -50%. Skin cancer is the most common cancer type in Ireland so this will be discussed and information will be provided on what changes in the skin to look out for. \nBooking are being taken for the talk – please contact the Library on 051 – 640591 or email : carricklibrary@tipperarycoco.ie. \n

DESCRIPTION:Would you like to learn the ancient art of silk painting? Carrick on Suir library is running a 6 week course during which you will learn how to apply paint to silk fabric stretched in a wooden frame. \nArtist Inseun Kim\, who has experience teaching fine art in Korea and also works as a tutor with STAG (Clonmel)\, will be our teacher. She says applying colour to silk can be regarded as a kind of art therapy based on the depth of colour created by the proper harmony of water and dyes and the tranquility brought by the harmony of the two materials. \nThe art classes are suitable for complete beginners and all materials will be supplied. DESCRIPTION:Haywood Lodge residents (ages 60+) and the nursing staff in Clonmel\, Co. Tipperary are over the moon to be taking part in the national Bealtaine Festival 2024\, which is themed ‘Lust for Life’. \nWe took full advantage of it being the 40th anniversary of the Punk revolution and let our inner rebels loose. No t-shirts or furniture were spared as we dyed\, pinned and ripped our passion out. We had fun and reminisced on a time we knew about and read about but being in rural Ireland – we really didn’t get to play a true part in this culture… until now! \nSo please come to Carrick-on-Suir Library and see the work of the artists of Haywood Lodge\, Clonmel from May 1st until May 17th. \nNo booking required – however due to the large number of events happening during May please phone ahead on 051-640591 to ensure viewing is possible.
