SUMMARY:"Life\, Death and Love\," - November\, the month of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:During the month of November\, Nenagh Library\, with the artist Pauline Goggin\, will host a series of presentations and artist talks with mini workshops (approx 1hr.) Pauline\, with a background in art teaching and psychotherapy\, is a new resident in Nenagh since 2022 and has a lifelong art practice which she hopes will develop and flourish in the Tipperary air.\n\nAt this time of year\, when the veils between life and death are more transparent\, we think of our dead. Remembering the souls of the dead is something that many cultures and traditions highlight at this time of the year.\n\nFrom the fiestas of Mexico\, the annual remembrance ceremonies of Mozambique and the more mysterious rituals of New Guinea to the November cemetery patterns and ceremonies of All Souls day in Ireland\, these global rituals and customs all have something in common\, a need to celebrate and remember the lives of those mourned. Pauline will draw on some cultural responses to create objects of remembrance as well as talking about the resource which art has been in her own experience of loss and grief.\n\nSo join Pauline in Nenagh library\, on Wednesday\, 1st November\, for a lunch time talk on ‘Life\, Death and Love\,’ starting at 1.00pm. Talks will also run on Tuesday evenings 7th and 14th of November at 6.30pm\n\nTo find out more contact Nenagh library at 067-34404

SUMMARY:The People & Places Exhibition: A Selection from the Kenrick Photo Collection 1895 - 1915
DESCRIPTION:Nenagh Library is hosting an exhibition entitled “People and Places: A Selection from the Kenrick Photo Collection 1895 – 1915” featuring a selection of images from the Kenrick Photo Collection.\n\n“The Kenrick Photo Collection is the work of amateur photographer Patrick Kenrick (1872-1950) who produced over 830 plate glass negative images between 1895 and 1915. Patrick Kenrick was born in Fethard\, Co Tipperary. He was the son of a tailor and lived with his family on Main Street. Unable to work in the family business\, Patrick had several jobs which included School Attendance Officer (1901 census)\, chauffeur and Land Agent (1911 census) for Richard Burke at Grove. He was also a remarkable amateur photographer.\n\nIn the curation of this exhibition the selected photos were chosen as examples of the many themes contained within the collection. Kenrick photographed the full stratigraphy of social life in Fethard at the turn of the twentieth century. From the barefoot child on the street to the affluent middle-class family and their peers.\nThe exhibition showcased as many of the themes of the collection as possible. Family life\, social occasions\, sporting events and community gatherings are included. Kenrick also photographed the landscape\, antiquarian portraits of heritage sites still familiar today. Within some of these we can view modernity and antiquity together\, such as the Rock of Cashel and the first car registered in Tipperary.\nMany thanks to Roisin and Ann Marie from the Tipperary Heritage Office\, Joe Kenny\, the Newport family and our colleagues at Tipp Studies.”\n\n– Stephanie Woods\, curator

SUMMARY:The Perils and Promises of Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:A Talk by Muhammad Iftikhar of the Walton Institute\, SETU Waterford \nComputers can do incredible things\, and by using artificial intelligence algorithms they are getting smarter every day. Think of AI as a smart helper that learns and understands things\, almost like a human. It’s like having a clever friend on our devices that can help us in many ways. This technology can improve human lives by assisting doctors\, driving cars\,  revolutionizing  industries\, and empowering gadgets to understand\, learn\, and adapt to human behaviour\, making them more intuitive and responsive. \n

SUMMARY:Baby Sign Rhyme and Storytime in Roscrea Library
DESCRIPTION:We already know babies can communicate with their hands before they can talk; they can wave; they can clap; they can point. They have the dexterity in their hands to formulate signs long before they have the muscle dexterity in their mouths to form words.\n\nBy teaching them sign language from an early age they will have a vocabulary to use\, even if they’re not formulating words.\n\n\nJoin us for Family Time in your library this December when we will be hosting a wonderful Baby Sign Rhyme and Storytime in Roscrea library with Claire Glynn from Clever Little Handies. She will also read from her new book while she is here.\n\nThis Storytime is for parents with babies from newborn up.\n\nThis event takes place on Monday the 4th of December at 2:30pm and all are welcome!\n\nCall Roscrea library on (0505)22032 for more information.
