DESCRIPTION:A Collection of Things Nearly Forgotten – an archive of memories from County Tipperary.\n\nComplied by Thurles Men’s Shed\, Presentation Convent Clonmel\, Borrisokane Men’s Shed\, Fethard ICA Guild and Tipperary artist Annie Hogg.\n\nTogether\, they have compiled and created a snapshot of a whole host of techniques\, expressions and similar\, which were familiar not so long ago in the daily lives of people living here in Tipperary.\nThey turned this collection into a booklet and an accompanying radio show.\nWe will be launching this project on 23rd September Thurles Library\, between 6pm and 7pm with the radio show being aired on Tipp Mid West Radio at 11.05am 24th September\, 1st October\, 8th October and 15th October. A feature on Tipp FM will follow.\n\nAfter the launch\, the booklet will be available in all Tipperary libraries.\nWe would love if you would come and join us for the launch on 23rd September.

SUMMARY:History Lecture at Clonmel Library - Mons Stars to the Royal Irish Regiment
DESCRIPTION:A new book\, Mons Star to the Royal Irish Regiment by Mary Anne Maher and Larry Scallan\, which researches soldiers mostly from Tipperary (Clonmel being the Depot of the Regiment)\, Kilkenny\, Wexford and Waterford\, was recently launched to great reception. \nThis one of a kind book details the order of deployment\, rank and alphabetical order of the regiment’s 1\,928 men who were awarded the ‘Mons’ Star medal given to men who served in France or Belgium between the day after Britain’s declaration of war against the Central Powers on August 5\, 1914 and the end of First Battle of Ypres on November 22\, 1914. \nAuthors Maher and Scallan have a long-standing shared interest in the Royal Irish Regiment due to the fact that both had a great-granduncle killed in an engagement between the regiment and the German army in Le Pilly\, France in October 1914\, where just under 180 were killed over the period of 19-31 October 1914 & where just under 400 men were taken prisoner of war. \nThe book is the culmination of four years of this research and includes details such as a post-war address for 72% of the soldiers and the names and locations of when and where over 800 men were taken prisoner of war. \nThe lecture in Clonmel library will relate details of the research undertaken and some poignant personal stories regarding some of the soldiers from Tipperary who were entitled to the 1914 ‘Mons’ Star medal.
