Nenagh library is delighted to welcome back the Newport Artists who will be exhibiting with us for the month of October. This group have been working together under the tutelage of local artist, Kerry Acheson, for many years now and their confidence is evident in the quality and variety of pictures on display. Just as the group is diverse so too is their work, in terms of subject matter and technique, all of which results in an eclectic and engaging range of paintings. Most of the members work with oil paints on canvas, but some, like Kerry, like to mix it up with different mediums – watercolours and acrylics.
Inspiration is often taken from the artists own life and memories or indeed their imaginations. Sometimes another artist or a photograph is the inspiration behind the image created. Everyone is different, but each acknowledges that coming together in their art group has had a therapeutic and healing effect on them. As their tutor, Kerry has found it exhilarating and often emotional working with this group, knowing as she does the love they put into their work and the satisfaction it brings to them. As she says, ‘we have no expectations to create a masterpiece but to enjoy our time together immersed in a little artistic bubble.’ Having no presumptions is probably what has allowed this group to blossom through the true nature of creativity: creating for the joy of creating.
